Power flushing is one of those less frequent but very important maintenance tasks that will keep your central heating system working better for longer. Best performed every 5-6 years, a power flush is more effective when completed by a professional. Power flushing pushes hot water and a cocktail of powerful chemicals through your entire heating system with high pressure force. This is designed to flush out the inevitable build-up of sludge and waste that accumulates over the years.
If your central heating has been taking longer to work lately, or radiators are warming up at slower rates, this is a classic sign that you may need a power flush.
In this post, we’ll be answering some commonly asked questions about power flushing…
How successful is a power flush?
It’s one of the most effective ways to entirely clean your heating system, if done correctly, with the right equipment. Heating and plumbing engineers everywhere say that power flushing is the number 1 easy to keep your central heating and boiler systems in top condition, saving you a lot of money and inconvenience in the long run. However, there are some cases where a system has gone beyond repair, because of neglect. While a thorough power flush can be effective in most cases, it is sometimes better to completely replace the entire system, if the damage is severe enough.
How much does it cost to power flush central heating?
The cost of getting your central heating system power flushed will depend on the size of your home, and the number of radiators, as well as the type of system in place, and the volume of work that needs to be completed.
Most recently, power flushing in a typical home will cost on average between £400 and £1,000, depending on the size of the house.
How long does power flushing take?
The length of time it takes to complete a power flush will vary in each home – but we would estimate around 5 hours for a medium 3-bed family home. If your property has a sealed or combination system, it will take less time. For larger homes with more radiators, it can take upwards of 10 hours.
